Despite his name, Hellboy is really heaven-sent. In the final days of World War II, the Nazis turn to Satanism and the occult in a last-ditch attempt to win the war against the Allied forces. They manage to open a portal to hell, but Allied commandos storm the proceedings and shut it. All that comes out is a tiny red baby, with horns and a tail. President Roosevelt's paranormal adviser and scientist takes care of the baby and raises him to become mankind's chief warrior against the forces of evil. As Hellboy grows in New Jersey, he gradually learns the ways of humans. He eats pancakes, smokes cigars, loves cats and even whittles his horns down so that he'll look less frightening. Hellboy is in love with a fellow paranormal. But he knows that he will be called on soon to fight the evil that is being awakened in the form of Rasputin and other forces of hell. They have finally been summoned more than 50 years after World War II, and Hellboy is raring to prove that he can fight evil in all its monstrous forms.
