Mavis Turner is an instructor who teaches dance with all her heart and soul. For a couple of sweaty hours every week, her students, including the hopeful Lynne, take their noses away from the grindstone and hit the dance floor in an attempt to "let it out" by tap dancing, or "stepping out." Mavis has a profound impact on her students and the effect is mutual, with the lessons often extending beyond the classroom. It is here, in her dance class, that they gain the courage to go after their dreams. When asked to dance for a local charity event, they get the chance to put their insatiable zest for life and their passion for expressing themselves, to some good use.
